Positioning for electrolysis

Home » Resources » Positioning for electrolysis

Always set up your treatment area with your couch in a central position to make it easy for you to move around it.

ROOM SET UP

All equipment should be easily accessible and the lamp positioned so that the treatment area is clearly lit and the electrologist is positioned so they can see and adjust the machine controls with ease.

The magnifying lens should be parallel to the area being treated, with sufficient space between the lamp and the client to allow hand movement and tweezer motion without touching the lens or bending the needle.

POSTURE AND THE ELECTROLOGIST

All equipment should be easily accessible and the lamp positioned so that the treatment area is clearly lit and the electrologist is positioned so they can see and adjust the machine controls with ease. The magnifying lens should be parallel to the area being treated, with sufficient space between the lamp and the client to allow hand movement and tweezer motion without touching the lens or bending the needle.

When carrying out electrolysis you should be seated wherever possible. Feet should remain flat and even on the floor – don’t cross your legs, or rest your feet on the stool, as this can affect balance.

If you are right-handed, position yourself on the left of the couch and vice versa. If you have to stand, adjust the couch height to avoid stooping.

Always consider your posture and the positioning of your body when carrying out a treatment. This will protect yourself against aches and pains and fatigue (repetitive strain injury could lead to loss of earnings) and to ensure that you make accurate insertions for effective treatment.

Ideally, position yourself so that the wrist and elbow are aligned with the direction of the hair. Electronic and Hydraulic mechanisms can be used to adjust height.

Try to remain relaxed, with no tension in the neck or shoulders. You may occasionally need to lean on the client – be as considerate as possible with your body weight. The comfort of both the client and electrologist is essential for effective treatment.

CLIENT POSITIONING

Ensure that the treatment room and area has been prepared for the client’s arrival. A piece of clean cotton wool should be placed near the treatment area for collecting removed hairs; you could also use a cotton wool pad cut to size and wrapped round your ring finger of your stretching hand, if preferred.

The client should remove all jewellery and be helped onto the couch if needed; ensure that the client is in a comfortable position and angle the magnifying lamp until you get the best view.

You should assess the area to be treated to determine the appropriate needle size and type (should be equal to the diameter of the hair), set the machine to the correct settings and modality and load the chosen needle into the holder.

Put on gloves and sanitise with Steri-cleanse. After removing any make-up the client is wearing, carefully cleanse the skin using Sterex Steritane, the Pre-treatment Skin Cleanser and allow to dry. Then commence treatment.
