Description
The VTCT Level 4 Award in Skin Blemish Removal is a vocationally related qualification focused on carrying out advanced electrolysis techniques to treat facial thread veins, spider naevi, blood spots, skin tags and milia using diathermy.
During the course you will develop the advanced skills required to carry out a thorough consultation, formulate an individual treatment plan and provide aftercare advice. Health, safety and hygiene are also key elements of this qualification.
Duration
The theory is studied online, at your own pace. Most learners find around four weeks of steady study comfortable, and we recommend starting around seven weeks before your practical dates. Your online theory must be completed at least three weeks before your selected two-day practical workshop. Your course purchase is valid for 6 months from the date of payment, with extensions available.
This is an Ofqual-regulated qualification awarded by VTCT (qualification no. 500/8888/9).

What’s Included
Your course fee includes access to the online learning platform, your two practical clinic and assessment days in Birmingham (including lunch), your course manual and materials, your registration with VTCT, and the marking and support for your written work. Travel and accommodation for your visits to the Academy are not included.
Assessments
As part of this qualification, you are required to produce a portfolio of evidence that includes all assessment criteria for this unit. Assessment methods include:
- Written assignment: One written assignment must be submitted.
- Practical evidence: Practical assessments take place at the Sterex Academy in Birmingham. You will be observed by an assessor demonstrating your practical skills on a minimum of three occasions.
- Knowledge checks: Your understanding of the online theory is confirmed in person during your practical days.
- Case studies: Within three months of completing the two-day practical workshop, you will be required to submit five case studies — one for each of the blemishes covered during training.
Suitability
- Who should do this course? This is an approved qualification for working as an advanced beauty therapist specialising in skin blemish removal.
- Pre-requisites: Learners must be aged 18+ years. The pre-requisite for this course is either a recognised electrolysis qualification, L3 Beauty Therapy (General Route including body and facial electricals), or a medical practitioner.
Certification
At the end of your practical days, subject to your treatment plans being successfully completed, insurable evidence of your completion is available to you straight away. When your portfolio is completed and signed off, your accredited certificate from the Awarding Body VTCT is claimed on your behalf.
