  • Electrolysis - The Resurgence

The vast majority of electrologists are full to capacity, which is why you never see them electrolysis still the best kept secret in the profitable world of hair removal?

    Electrolysis: The ResurgenceFACTS:

    • Electrolysis is the only method of hair removal approved as permanent by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration in USA).
    • The British Advertising Standards Authority has given permission to state that electrolysis is permanent hair removal in advertising.
    • Other hair removal methods do not remove hair permanently.
    • Laser and IPL treatments, which use light, are FDA approved for hair reduction, not permanent removal and these treatments are ‘discriminatory’ against some hair and skin colour.
    • Electrolysis is ‘non-discriminatory’ as any hair colour on any skin, on any part of the body can receive an effective treatment.
    • Hair removal using electrolysis for ‘cosmetic’ reasons has been around since the early 1900’s, having been initially invented within the ophthalmology field in the early 1870’s for the permanent removal of in-growing eyelashes.

Electrolysis is often described as ‘Progressively Permanent’ because it requires a series of treatments to achieve permanent results, as each follicle needs to be treated a few times throughout its cycle of growth.

In the 90’s when IPL & laser treatments were being introduced for hair removal there was massive interest in the new and exciting technology and electrologists who tired of the somewhat lengthy, albeit permanent, electrolysis treatment began to  offer these  light treatments which showed such early promise. Non electrologists were trained in this new method and over a few years hair removal was no longer purely the domain of the skilled and knowledgeable electrologist. However IPL and laser practitioners are now realising they need to add electrolysis to their treatment menu to enable them to treat all hairs, on all skin colours, on all parts of the body, permanently.

The Sterex Academy has noticed a huge rise in the level of interest across their portfolio of courses from basic to advanced:

The Sterex Academy Level 3 basic electrolysis course is now permanently oversubscribed due to:

    • Younger beauty therapists, who chose to opt out of electrolysis when studying, who now realise they need it for their career progression or to meet their clients’ needs
    • Laser/IPL practitioners wanting electrolysis so they can offer the complete hair removal service to their clients
    • Nurses and other health care professionals wanting to have another string to their bow
    • The clients themselves who have benefited from the treatment which has changed their lives, who want to train to help and treat others, particularly those from the transgender community

    The Sterex Academy refresher courses for qualified but inexperienced electrologists, are also full to brimming. This is for a number of reasons;

    • The more mature beauty therapist, trained over 10 years ago when electrolysis was compulsory but didn’t practice it in the salon, who now realises that she has been turning away the very clients that want/need it.
    • Salon owners who see a business opportunity and need their inexperienced electrologists up-skilling
    • Electrologists who have really old machines and want to learn about new techniques, research and opportunities to progress into advanced electrolysis work
    • Lecturers who need to up-skill for their CPD and to teach their students... to name a few.

There is a clear progression path for electrologists through the extensive and popular Sterex Academy blemish removal courses starting with red vein removal training.  Blemish removal is also the entry point for medical doctors and dentists interested in the medical aesthetic sector who are looking to introduce these treatments.

The Sterex Academy believe, for the sake of clients’ motivation and hair growth management, a variety of hair removal treatments should be offered by anyone claiming to be a hair removal expert BUT as the only permanent hair removal method, electrolysis must be included.

  • Sterex is delighted to announce the re-launch of BioSkinJetting

Sterex is delighted to announce the re-launch of BioSkinJetting.

“The time has come to re-introduce these amazing treatments to the Industry” said Laurie Cartmell Sterex MD. “Originally launched in 2003 the world was simply not ready for BioSkinJetting. This time around, treatments based on subscision are accepted and embraced. BioSkinJetting is built upon the same principle as derma rolling and stamping but back then we were simply before our time.  This time there will be no stopping us!”

BioSkinJetting is a natural treatment for winkles and is perfect for many small skin imperfections in the skin.  Used in combination with the radio frequency BioSkinSmoothing machine both atrophic and hypertrophic wrinkles scars and imperfections can be treated.

Immediately following the very first treatment the wrinkle or blemish is visibly less deep. Because the skin is responsible itself for the formation of collagen, results are long lasting and natural. The skin directly underneath the wrinkle is stimulated into forming new tissue containing regenerated collagen and elastin fibres which plump the area and reduce the appearance of the wrinkle or scar.

The main benefit it has over its competitors’ is that the treatment is so very precise and can treat the smallest of areas specifically targeting the area directly under the wrinkle leaving the surrounding skin untouched.

Elaine Stoddart said “The idea of a re-launch has been inspired by a delightful aesthetician Sarah Kothari. I trained Sarah in Advanced Electrolysis in 2003 and at the time demonstrated our new treatment ‘BioSkinJetting’ on the training course. Sarah was fascinated at the time but not able to take on another treatment.  Throughout the years she never forgot and then herself became a client of another ‘Jetter’. Having tried it out she was so pleased with the treatments results she said that she thought it would be perfect for her clients”.

sterex fbSarah said “I can’t offer treatments I don’t believe in myself and I think BioSkinJetting by Sterex is simply the best. It has huge advantages over other wrinkle treatments as it is both prescriptive and precise.”

Sarah has been operating her own successful business since 2004. She has owned her own company providing treatments to hotels and has had her own salons. Sarah, along with her orthopaedic surgeon husband, now have two young children of 2 ½ months and 14 months (and 2 dogs!) so she works from home.  Sarah said “When working from home it is important to maximise your time and choose treatments that are specialist as well as lucrative, rewarding, effective and appeal to all”.

“I enjoy performing highly skilled precise niche treatments which require great skill and dexterity such as electrolysis and so BioSkinJetting is the perfect ‘fit’ for my portfolio.  I felt there was a gap in my treatment portfolio as I offer non surgical face lifting but wanted a more permanent effect. Non surgical face lifting is great but did not target wrinkles the same way as BioSkinJetting does.”  Sarah has now successfully completed her training and is looking forward to being able to help her clients.

BioSkinJetting from Sterex launches its courses next year with a planned initial 4 courses in each season.

“We fully expect to put more courses on to cope with the demand”, said Elaine Stoddart, Director of Education for Sterex. “I am so pleased that Sarah was so persistent. Her enthusiasm in these treatments was infectious and truly inspired us into this re-launch. We have exciting new leaflets and point of sale for the existing jetters which number over 100 and are currently building a new section of the website and our PR company confidently expects this to be an overwhelming success story for Sterex. BioSkinJetting will be the next on trend phenomenon.”
